Writer's picture: Tara JoyTara Joy

Good morning! Let's kick off this morning with our first how to tutorial. Today we will be creating this adorable bee themed wood home decor. Let's get started!

Let's start with our supply list. Most everything you can purchase at Dollar Tree!

Supplies Needed:

  1. Wood Round- I bought mine at Michaels, but Dollar Tree does carry wood rounds all the time. Size is 5 inches in diameter.

  2. White paint- I used Waverly brand chalk paint in the color Plaster however any white acrylic paint will work.

  3. Ribbon- I bought this cute burlap ribbon at Dollar Tree but any ribbon you desire you can use. Dollar Tree has an AMAZING assortment of ribbon.

  4. Tissue paper

  5. A bee design from Canva. I will link my design that I created here: https://www.canva.com/design/DAGFZBRPWhc/P-ILIvSMNCbf1DnlWnGSjA/edit?utm_content=DAGFZBRPWhc&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton

6. Matte Mod Podge- Can be bought anywhere including Dollar Tree.

Let's make this cute project!

First thing you'll want to do is sand your wood round to give it a smooth finish and ensure paint adheres well. Next, clean off any debris from sanding and paint your entire wood round with your white paint. I applied two coats.

While your paint is drying let's create your design. You can either use mine or you can create your own on Canva or you can print one off of Google image search. Once you have your design created, you're going to print it on tissue paper. See the tutorial on how to print on tissue paper here: "Creative Crafting: How to Successfully Print on Tissue Paper for Your Projects" (joyfulprints22.wixsite.com)

After your paint is dry and you have successfully printed out your design and have it ready to go, using a paint brush apply a light coat of Mod Podge to your wood round.

Carefully lay your tissue paper with your design on top of the Mod Podge and run your fingers across to get out any wrinkles. Next apply another coat of Mod Podge to the top of the design to seal it.

Once the Mod Podge is dry completely, make a bow using the awareness ribbon method (make the awareness ribbon with the ribbon and tie it in the center with jute twine or string). Add the bow to your wood round using hot glue and you have completed your project!

I used a wood round that is thick enough to sit on a table but if you would like to hang your project simply add a hanher using jute twine or even the ribbon that you used for the bow.
