Hello! I hope you are doing well! Today I am going to "show" you how to create this fabulous rustic looking watermelon wood decor to add to your summer decor. Let's get crafting! Please note that included in this post are Amazon Affiliate links and I do earn from qualifying purchases.

Supplies Needed:

  1. Square Canvas Art- I bought mine at Dollar Tree. They have them for all seasons. It doesn't matter what design is on it because you're only going to use the frame.

  2. 6 or 7 Jumbo Craft Sticks - https://amzn.to/3wJkHtF

  3. Wood Heart- https://amzn.to/3ViAHMu

  4. Acrylic paint in green, white, and fuchsia or a purplish pink

  5. Paint Brushes

6. Sharpie Marker in black

Instructions:

First thing we're going to do is remove the canvas from the frame. I do that using a utility knife or box cutter and going around the outside of the staples. Peel off the canvas and remove any canvas being held on by the staples. You don't have to worry about removing the staples because you aren't going to see them.

Next grab your white acrylic paint (I use chalk paint, but any acrylic paint is fine.) and paint the entire frame front, back, and inside. While your frame is drying go ahead and paint your heart in your pink color.

Once the frame is dry, we're now going to take 6 of the craft sticks and hold one of them up to the back of the frame and using a pencil mark where you need to cut the stick so that none of it hangs over the sides of the frame. Once you have one of the craft sticks marked take your sharp scissors or your utility knife and cut the sticks on the marks. Use that stick as a guide to cut the rest of your sticks.

Paint your sticks with your green acrylic paint and let them dry. Once those are dry take your white paint and apply very little to your brush and make lines down the center of your sticks. You want to make sure that you have very little paint on your brush. This is called dry brushing and gives you a very rustic look. Do the same thing around all the edges of the heart.

Once everything is dry grab your glue gun and glue each craft stick to the back of your frame. I like to start in the middle and work my way out. You may have to trim the last stick a little to make it fit.

Now take your heart and glue that directly to the center of the craft sticks. Take your Sharpie marker and draw your seeds on your watermelon. I turned mine in different directions just to give it more character, but you can do it however it makes you happy. And there you go you created a sweet watermelon decor to brighten up your home this summer! You can add a hanger to it but mine is just sitting on my table as you see in the picture.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I'll see you next time!
