"How to Create a DIY Watermelon Themed Summer Door Hanger: Step-by-Step Tutorial"

Writer's picture: Tara JoyTara Joy

Hello and welcome or welcome back!! I don't know what it is this summer but I'm really into the watermelon decor. So today I'm going to "show' you how to create this beautiful, bright and cheerful watermelon sign for your door.

Let's get crafting!!!

Please note that included in this post are Amazon Affiliate links and I do earn from qualifying purchases.

Supplies needed:

  1. One of the long signs from Dollar Tree- They have them for all holidays and seasons. Don't worry about what's on it because we're going to use the back.

  2. Acrylic paint in white, green, and fuchsia or a watermelon pink

  3. The watermelon beaded tassel from Dollar Tree linked here https://www.dollartree.com/laua-icon-with-beads-garland-2775-in/382557

  4. Letter stickers or a Sharpie marker https://amzn.to/3wUlqIk

  5. Round sponge brush https://amzn.to/3WWNF3T

Instructions:

Take your long sign and flip it to the back and paint your sign with your white paint. I used chalk paint, but you can use any kind of acrylic paint.

Once your paint has dried you have several options for the lettering. If you have a Cricut cutting machine you can cut the letters out of black vinyl (here's the template, I used with my machine https://www.canva.com/design/DAGFsk329pg/Wo9F2IoA93cosLHNmA47-g/edit?utm_content=DAGFsk329pg&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton

You can use the poster letters that I linked above in the supply list or if you're blessed to have great handwriting, you can choose to write out the words with a Sharpie marker.

Next take the watermelon decor and cut it from the tassel. Using hot glue attach the watermelon to the bottom of the sign. Take the tassel off the watermelon decor and again, using hot glue, attach it to the bottom of the sign.

Lastly to make the hanger take the red, white and green beads from the watermelon decor and string them on to some jute twine and attach the hanger to the back of the sign.

It's really that simple and now you have a beautiful sign for your front door this summer! Just a little extra note...you can apply craft paper to the other side of your sign to cover up whatever design might be on it.

I sure hop you give this one a try and I'll see you in the next one!
